High School “Saving
homes, one word at a time” is the slogan
for Portage Northern’s fundraising event
in support of Roof Sit. For a month, the students
at Portage Northern have been planning a poetry “slam” event
called Slamapalooza, at 7:30 p.m. in the Portage
Northern Auditorium. The event has already raised
$1,000 and the doors haven’t opened. The
evening event will feature 30 students who have
auditioned to read poetry. The poetry reading
will be complemented with a fundraising an silent
art auction (by the PNHS Art Students) inspired
by the poetry. The PNHS wood working department
and classes have joined the event by creating
wood art that includes the poems burned in the
pieces; these items will be auctioned off as
part of the silent auction. Then as additional
fundraising venture, the students have designed
Slamapalooza t-shirts and bracelets which will
be sold to generate a good profit. Imperial Beverages
has donated beverages which will be sold during
the silent auction. Entry to Slampalooza is free
with a donation kindly requested.

way to support programs that fight and prevent child abuse and
neglect. Pastor Terry Blackford is the coordinator. The participating
stations include: Bob & Kay Stadium Drive , Portage Shell,
