About Roof Sit

roofsitlogo_smRoof Sit and Golf Fore Kids raise money each year to support programs at The Community Healing Centers that treat and prevent child abuse and neglect in our community. All money raised stays right here in southwest Michigan.

Who benefits from the money
raised for Roof Sit?

Community Healing Centers’ Roof Sit is a fundraiser for programs that treat and prevent child abuse and neglect.   Funds raised at the event support treatment for children who have been sexually or physically abused, treatment and healing for their family, as well as intensive support for parents, infants, toddlers, and children who are facing significant challenges.   Community Healing Centers is a non-profit community based organization, committed to providing treatment and prevention services to children, adults and families in Southwest Michigan.

Community Healing Centers offers compassionate, specialized care for children who are victims of sexual or physical abuse. Our goals are to reduce the traumatic effects of abuse; protect children from maltreatment; seek justice for child victims; and investigate abuse as a team, while keeping the comfort and safety of the child the first priority.  Our therapists, along with  physicians, police, prosecutors and victim advocates work together to help the child and their family through the legal process as well as the healing process.  In order to minimize the trauma a child experiences from having to repeat the events of the sexual abuse many times, the child may be interviewed, for the purposes of law enforcement, in the caring environment of the Community Healing Centers, by a specially trained counselor.  The interview is taped for the purpose of prosecuting the abuser.  Each year we provide these services to at least 275 new children, in addition to the children and families that are already in treatment.

We also offer intensive in-home support for families with young children 0-6 years old.  We provide intensive home-based parent-infant support and intervention to families where the parent’s condition, life circumstances, or the characteristics of the infant, can threaten the parent-infant attachment.   The incidence and prevalence of developmental delays, behavioral and emotional disorders, abuse and neglect can be reduced.  For families with children 7 – 17 our intensive home and community based services work to enhance or restore social and psychological functioning of individuals, couples or families.  Our individual and family therapy also reduces the incidence of abuse and neglect.

How does Roof Sit work?

Over 1,000 individuals, businesses, service groups, schools and school groups help to raise money for Roof Sit. Fundraising takes place before, during and sometimes after the event. Prior to the Roof Sit Event Days (May 17-19), groups plan independent donation groupsfundraisers, so that when the Event takes place May 17-19, they can come down to Roof Sit at the corner of Westnedge and Milham Road in Portage (on the roof of the Helzberg Diamonds / Hairmasters building) and make their donation. There are many ways for groups to raise money.  Use this website as a resource guide to make fundraising easy and fun.  We will come and meet with you and your group to help identify a fundraising program that will be rewarding and supportive.
